Sometimes we learn from our mistakes …

… but we don’t need to. We don’t need to make mistakes and we wouldn’t even make them if we would just consult with God first. Just ask him before making a decision.

Joshua discovered this in the second battle in the new land. Because he assumed it was okay to go ahead men died. If he had checked with God he would have discovered that sin had entered the camp and it needed to be dealt with.

When David went to bring the Ark of the Covenant up into Jerusalem he did not check with God first. As a result a man died and David was very upset. It was after checking that he discovered that only the Levites were allowed to carry the Ark:

"It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the Lord our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way." (1 Chronicles 15:13)

James said that we don’t have because we don’t ask. All our Father is asking is that we would consult with him first, especially considering that our lives no longer belong to us. So save yourself a lot of trouble and check with Daddy first.
